Who may Install A Sign?
Depending on the size and/ or weight of a sign, a registered General Contractor, licensed Master Sign Hanger or Special Sign Hanger may be required.

Master Sign Hangers are licensed by the Department to raise, lower, hang, or attach signs of any size or weight.
Special Sign Hangers are licensed by the Department to raise, lower, hang, or attach signs that are no larger than 150 square feet in total area and that weigh no more than 1,200 pounds.
A registered General Contractor may install non-illuminated business signs, which have a limited amount of text.
Master Sign Hangers 为符合此类工程操作规范，必须拥有政府部門的从业許可执照，可以操作任何尺寸或重量的指示牌及招牌;
Special Sign Hangers 有相关政府部門許可执照，对總面積不超過 150 平方英尺且重量不超過 1,200 磅的指示牌及招牌进行安装/ 增设/ 位置调动;
Registered General Contractor 註冊承包商，可以安裝文字數量有限的非照明商業標誌。
The Categories Of The Signs
Business / Accessory Signs in the NYC Zoning Resolution identify many aspects of a sign, height, size, illumination and where the sign is located etc. These are governed by its zoning district and location.
In NYC, there are three types of zoning districts:
residential 居民住宅区
commercial 商业区
manufacturing 制造业区
Each district has different rules and regulations. For example, residential districts have the most restrictive sign regulations. Time Square has unique sign requirements (big, bold and bright) that do not apply anywhere else. Also, a billboard/ advertising sign promote goods and services offered elsewhere, which is different from a business sign.
Further, a NYS registered architect or licensed professional engineer may need to prepare and submit design plans to the Department. Signs greater than six (6) square feet in total area must be approved by DOB, and comply with the local zoning regulations for signs. A registered architect, licensed engineer, or in some instances, a licensed sign hanger, must submit plans.

不同案例依据法规要求，我们需经由紐約州註冊建築師或行业执照工程師向政府部門提交设计施工图纸。如總面積超過 6 平方英尺的標誌图纸必須录入房屋局系统得到 DOB 的批准才可施工。
When Is A Permit Required To Install A Sign?
A permit is required to install a business sign if the sign is painted directly onto a building or bigger than six square feet in total area and not illuminated.
如果商業標誌直接塗在建築物上或總面積超過六平方英尺且沒有发光，則需要獲得工作許可證才能进行安裝。
